Kenya and Tanzania Safari

You are collected from the hotel and transferred to Wilson Airport for your first exciting tour flight to a private community concession in Laikipia in the north of Kenya. A wildlife haven created by the local Maasai—a varied ecosystem of wilderness, savanna, and springs—often described as one of Kenya’s top safari destinations for its abundant and diverse wildlife. This includes both black and white rhino, the rare Grevy’s zebra, wild dogs, elephant, giraffe, hyena, lion, and the elusive leopard. The central waterhole attracts elephants, impala, kudu, warthog, baboon, vervet monkey—and even elusive predators—right at your doorstep!

You are transferred to Lewa Downs airstrip for an approx. 2-hour tour flight to the Masai Mara airstrip and transfer to your camp for the next 3 nights at a prime riverside location on the Talek River bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve – the crown jewel of Kenya’s safari circuit—an iconic wilderness where wildlife teems year-round. Extraordinary Big Five sightings, intimate predator-prey encounters, and endless horizons under wide indescribable African skies. Home to the legendary Great Migration, this is where over a million wildebeest thunder across crocodile-infested rivers, shadowed by lions and cheetahs.

Includes accommodation in river-view tents, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, (excludes bush meals and sundowners) mineral water, tea and coffee service in own tent, return airstrip transfers, shared daily game drives in open-sided vehicles in the Sekenani area of the Masai Mara National Reserve, picnic excursions, bird walks along the Talek River Trail, visiting conservation and community projects, garden dining, private dining at the platform (subject to availability), park and conservation fees. Hot air ballooning is available at this camp and highly recommended, cost around $515 per person – you can book while at camp.

This morning you transfer by private road to the heart of the Mara Naboisho Conservancy adjacent to the Masai Mara Reserve to your classically simple, boutique safari lodge. A great place to avoid crowds! Phenomenal game viewing all year round, some of the best in East Africa – limited number of vehicles per camp in this conservancy so more exclusive wildlife experience. Extraordinary off-road night game drives within the conservancy! A cultural visit to the local NGO working toward a harmonious balance between conservation and sustainable human development in the Masai Mara to learn about community projects.

This morning you transfer to Ol Seki airstrip for flights to Migori airstrip, then Migori to Lamai airstrip for your next 3 nights at a migration-focused camp in northern Serengeti in the Lamai Wedge located between the Mara River and the Kenyan border. Twice a year the entire camp relocates with the Great Migration for optimal opportunity to view the best action – in September the camp is set up in the Lamai for the dramatic river crossings.

This camp has a simple set-up and a raw wilderness feel. Recommended only for experienced safari travellers! The camp has a totally authentic feel and the amazing opportunity to experience bucket showers – not for everyone, so please be aware of this. An experience you won’t forget! Transfer back to Lake Manyara airstrip for transfer to a highland camp perched on the slopes of Olmoti crater in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with sweeping views stretching to the distant Serengeti. Daily guided game drives descend into the iconic Ngorongoro Crater. Hikes through ancient Maasai trails lead into Olmoti and Empakaai craters.

This is a sublime way to end your safari and a good balance after the authentic Ubuntu Migration Camp and bucket showers! Return to Lake Manyara airstrip for your flight to Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) to connect to your homeward/onward flights.

Note: Depending on our flight schedule, you may want a day room at an airport hotel to relax, shower, sleep, have lunch instead of spending hours at JRO.
